Alert Success Sunday, Jun 24 2012

Recently a car parked in the neighborhood was reported to the police.  The location, color and tag number of the vehicle were given as info.  The police arrested two individuals in the vehicle for various offenses, including drug use, and the car was impounded.  The specific information regarding the vehicle helped in the rapid apprehension of these individuals.  We have been informed that the individuals actually live in our neighborhood.  The burglaries in our neighborhood are believed to be connected to the need to support drug habits.  It is vital that we not be complacent regarding any out of place or suspicious activity in our neighborhood to increase our quality of life.  Meet and greet, walk through, be aware, participate.  We deserve to feel safe in our own neighborhood.

THANK YOU SFPD!!

Full Court Press helps cops nab burglars Thursday, Jun 14 2012

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Police are out in full force and so far it looks like cops in Santa Fe are winning the war against home and auto burglars.

Since Monday police have been taking suspected burglars off the streets.

In the past four days, police have arrested 12 suspects on the city’s top offender list. They are also sending 10 arrest warrants to the courts to go after more.

Police say many of these suspects are repeat offenders and are accused of more than one burglary.

Kenneth Martinez has been linked to three home burglaries and police think there is a possibility he’s responsible for more.

A SWAT team and a police helicopter were out looking for him Friday after he ran from officers.

Martinez was arrested this week by detectives.

However hunting down the suspects is not the only tactic being used. Officers are patrolling specific neighborhoods looking for crime.

This week they caught three home burglars in the act.

Some of the crooks have told police that homeowners are making it easy on them by leaving doors and windows unlocked.

“This particular suspect said it was an invitation to burglarize the home and he did – he stole some jewelry out of it and left the home,” lt. Louis carols said.

Police say jewelry seems to be the most attractive item to the thieves.

So far police have recovered $30,000 in stolen items including a lot of jewelry and electronics.

Police have been able to link some of the stolen goods to specific cases and have returned those items to their owners.

Police say this is all part of their new Full Court Press operation they started this month to crack down on repeat burglars and drug offenders.

The operation will be up and running for six months.

Neighbor Saves The Day (ABQ) Thursday, Jun 14 2012

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two men claiming to be police officers tried to force their way into a home in northeast Albuquerque Wednesday morning.

The homeowner says the two men first pounded on the door, shouting they were Albuquerque awareness officers and then tried to slide open the window to her bedroom.

She shouted back that she was on the phone with police and when a neighbor ran over, the men took off.

Nothing was taken from her home, but the neighbor found a bag that had been dropped with items stolen from at least one car in the neighborhood near San Antonio and Louisiana.

Channel 13 Spotlights Our Area as Crime Hotspot

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe police say burglaries are way up from this time last year and officers are working hard to track down the bad guys before they strike.

Burglaries have skyrocketed in 2012, up 53% from one year ago.

Police say crime data is helping them pinpoint when and where these crimes are taking place.

They’ve noticed one neighborhood north of Cerrillos and Saint Michaels is a hot spot from crime on Thursdays between 1 and 8 p.m.

Police are looking at other neighborhoods too.

“We’re going to deploy overtime resources to those areas to have a stronger presence, these will be marked police units and bike officers,” Santa Fe Police Captain Aric Wheeler tells KRQE News 13.

Property crime offenders won’t be the only targets of these efforts either. Police say there is a huge nexus tied to narcotics.

In the past detectives had worked with street level drug users in exchange for information on bigger drug pushers. Wheeler says those days are over.

Police believe those users are turning to burglarizing homes and cars to feed to their drug habits.

Detectives also plan to keep a closer eye on repeat offenders. Two weeks ago they started releasing weekly wanted posters of the top five suspects linked to property and drug crimes.

As soon as repeat offenders are arrested police plan to notify the courts, so judges will be aware of their entire criminal background including new arrests and pending cases.
